Citrus Water Punch

by Melanie on February 29, 2008

Last night I taught a cooking class with my sister Brittany on Easy Entertaining! It was fun! We were gong to snap a couple of pictures–but we were a little busy and forgot! This picture of the drink was at the end–thus it is almost gone! You will have to imagine it full and all the slices of citrus floating with crushed ice. It is a very beautiful drink to serve at a party–but the best part is–it tastes GREAT!! It is not too sweet or heavy, just perfectly light and refreshing!

Citrus Water

2 T citric acid (buy at pharmacy)
1 bag crushed ice
5 quarts water
2 cups sugar
2 T lemon extract
3 sliced lemons
3 sliced limes
3 sliced oranges

Stir water, sugar, citric acid, and extract together. Add sliced fruit and ice.

We also made:
Brie En Croute
Shrimp Bruschetta Salad
Art City Salad ( grilled chicken and poppyseed salad)
Turkey Bernaise Croissant Sandwich
Chilled Blueberry Soup with Lemon cream
White Chocolate Mousse Tartlettes
Triple layer Coconut Cake
I will post all these recipes when I get time! They are delicious and perfect for a spring luncheon!

I’ve heard you talk about this punch before, Mel. I am definitely going to have to make it.

I am planning on making this punch and I have not been able to find the Citric Acid. I have asked at several pharm. and stores with no luck. I’m in AZ. Any suggestions???

I am sorry you are having trouble finding citric acid. It is also sold for home canning. I have seen it in my grocery store on the isle with all the canning supplies. I bought it online through the San Fransico Herb company. It was cheap! Good luck!

Hi

I was wondering adding the fruit slices to the water, does it have a bitter taste to it. When I make Ice Tea with Lemon, I add the sliced up lemon to the tea, and after a couple days of drinking the tea has a bitter taste to it.

Hi Jackie,
I am sure over time it could go bitter–but I have only ever served this punch for a party or gathering. It has never been bitter for the hours it is out. I have not tried to save it for a couple of days. Hope that helps!

Can you use spenda, agave, or another sweetener?

Hi Gina,
I have only made it with sugar–but I would think that splenda would definetly work. Let me know how it goes if you try it! I love to find ways to use less sugar:)
