Poppyseed Bundt Cake

by Melanie on April 15, 2009

This is a very popular dessert at my house. The cake gets rave reviews from whoever it is served to. My family LOVES it and it is requested every year for my son TJ’s birthday cake! So we ate this cake yesterday, clebrating his big 10th! It is sweet. moist and delicious! Be warned it is very addictive! It is hard to stop with just one bite (like I try to do).I combined 2 different recipes to come up with this one. The syrup glaze came from my friend Melanie. Poppyseed Bundt Cake
Submitted by Melanie

1 yellow cake mix (the kind with pudding)
1 (3.5 oz) box of instant vanilla pudding
1 TB poppyseeds
1/2 cup pinapple or orange juice
1/2 cup oil
1 cup sour cream (I use lite)
4 eggs
Mix yellow cake mix, vanilla pudding and poppyseeds. Add juice, oil, and sour cream and mix. Add 4 eggs one at a time, mix well. Grease and flour a bundt pan. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
When the cake is about 10 minutes from being done start the glaze.
Glaze
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup butter (1 cube)
1-2 TB corn syrup (I usually leave this out–I am not a fan of this)
Bring to a boil–then keep bubbly until ready to pour over cake. It is really like syrup that soaks in. Give it a few minutes to soak in and then turn it out onto a cake plate. Enjoy!

Oh, this is so hard. It's like choosing which of my children I love the most–okay, maybe not JUST like that, but close. I've grown up loving kitchen gadgets, probably because my mom is a fabulous cook but also because I have fond memories of my dad and I watching infomercials of kitchen gadgets. We didn't order too many of them, but we did try out a few. The rest we accumulated at places like Bed Bath & Beyond. We sound so weird, I know. I suffer from an addiction of gathering way too many recipes for me to ever try in my lifetime, so I love your blog and have been trying some of your recipes lately. Thanks so much for sharing! Okay, if I really had to choose just one favorite kitchen tool, I guess it would be my favorite knife–my Santoku. I have two just like it because I use it so often.

I think it might have to be my cleaver…I’ve had it for fifty years. It chops vegetables and then acts like a scraper, picks the diced vegies up and plops them in the skillet or soup pot…almost like in one motion. I guess its partner might have to be the hand held stone for keeping sharp.

My Master Cook recipe software, where I store your recipes, would also have to be a favorite.

I do love the Silpat though…I have a big one that I use for kneading bread, etc. Sure could use another cookie sheet sized one!

OMG where do I begin when it comes to choosing my favourite kitchen tool??? There’s the kitchen aid, the blender, the juicer, the popcorn maker, the slow cooker, the pie maker, my knife, my double bladed chopper and there are still so many more!!! Can you tell I am addicted to cooking gadgets of any shape or size??? LOL!!

But having thought about it I would have to say my favourite tool that I use would have to be my Swiss Speed Peeler… love it and have been using it for years now (it’s a point that I cannot handle using a normal peeler!!) I even take it with me to other houses or the club canteen if I think there may be vegetable peeling involved!!

BTW love the blog – you all do a fantastic job!!!

My Kitchen Aid…if I had heat-resistant spatulas, that would be my favorite tool.

It’s a toss up between my kitchen aid mixer and my wisk. It looks like a flat circle and I love it. And I really hope I win the drawing:)

This is one of my favorite cake recipes too, it is sooo yummy!

It is so hard to pick just one favorite, but I guess it would have to be my Bosch. With four boys, I have to make a lot of bread, so it is a lifesaver!

I might be a little late, but the silpat looks like a really neat kitchen tool.

My can’t-live-without tools are my crockpot and my ice cream maker. Okay…I could probably live without them but who’d want to? I’m now craving poppy seeds…
